Artificial Intelligence and Worker Well-being : DOL’s Principles for Developers and Employers
As directed by President's Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence, the Department of Labor developed "Artificial Intelligence and Worker Well-being: Principles for Developers and Employers" to provide AI developers and employers across the country with a shared set of guidelines.
The Principles guide the development and use of AI systems in the workplace throughout their lifecycle, from design to deployment and auditing. They are relevant across all sectors, though their application may vary by industry. The Principles are meant to provide a flexible framework for businesses, not a comprehensive list.
The Department's AI Principles for Developers and Employers include:
- Centering Worker Empowerment
- Ethically Developing AI
- Establishing AI Governance and Human Oversight
- Ensuring Transparency in AI Use
- Protecting Labor and Employment Rights
- Using AI to Enable Workers
- Supporting Workers Impacted by AI
- Ensuring Responsible Use of Worker Data
At CerebrumEdge, we fully integrate these guidelines when deploying our solutions, ErgoEdge and SafetyEdge. Our solutions are designed exclusively to enhance the health and safety of the workforce, without compromising workers' rights in any way. CerebrumEdge and its partners ensure that the AI solutions are explained to workers and obtain their consent, including union consent where applicable. All collected data is used solely for the intended and disclosed purposes.
Importantly, our solutions do not automate any actions that could impact the workforce without human oversight.
